Your site traffic is produced mainly by web site visits - every time somebody visits your site, the pages they see are downloaded from your hosting server to his / her computer or smartphone and they are shown by the browser. What counts for the site traffic generated is the size of these web pages, thus the more visitors you get for a given period of time, the more site traffic will be produced. In addition to the website visits, file uploads will also be counted towards the total monthly transfer which means that when you upload website content as well as other files with a file manager or an FTP application, they'll also produce some traffic. The counter resets on the very first day of every month and it is not related to the date you have registered or the date you've renewed the hosting plan.
