All generic extensions and some country-code ones support a security lock option whose purpose is to prevent unsolicited transfers of active domains. Lots of domain registry organizations that manage country-code top-level domain names that do not support this option are in the process of introducing it for greater safety and for the convenience of the domain owners. A domain can be transferred only if it is unlocked and only a registrant who has been given access to the account with the current registrar can do that. New domains are registered with the lock option enabled on purpose, so as to block any unauthorized transfer attempts. The lock option is one of the security measures for regulating the transfer of existing domain names between registrars that have been adopted over the years.
